Sending Two Beers Off to a National Competition
by Jim Vondracek on 09/24/12On September 29, the 2012 National Organic Homebrew Challenge will be held in California and I sent two beers to this competition, the first competition of a national scope that I've entered. At the competition, a panel of two or three judges will evaluate my beers in writing - competitions are a great way to receive feedback from non-biased, knowledge evaluators in an anonymous context.
After spending about $10 in packing materials, I arrayed it all on the table.

First I put the competition bottle id forms on each bottle - three bottles each of our Midsommar Cream Ale and Midnattssol IPA. Then wrapped each bottle in bubble wrap and secured with packing tape.

Then into a box that holds the bottles fairly tightly, then more bubble wrap to hold the bottles securely.

Used shipping tape to securely close the box and affix the mailing label. Then off the UPS store for shipping, which cost a little less than $18.

I'll share with you the judges comments and scores when I get them, probably three or four weeks from now.
